Botswana (Term 1 | 2025)
Through data collection experience during weXplore and storytelling efforts, I have created One Elephant Story as my module summative, which tells a journey of an elephant who was a part of a complex net of human-wildlife connection. The story attempts to raise questions about ethics within the context of interactions of humans and animals, and specifically focuses on whether or not violence can be excused or be a right decision when it is intertwined with good intentions.
Mexico (Term 2 | 2025)
This artwork is the summative assessment for the Artivismo module, which depicts a young woman being silenced by a male figure behind her. The female is being perceived as a doll rather than a human being, highlighting the issue of the objectification of women. Additionally, the piece focuses on gender-based violence and stalking. The historical context behind the idea is the widespread issue of gender-based violence in Oaxaca and Mexico.
In terms of printmaking specifically, I believe that this art-making technique allowed me to break free from the creative conventions I had been partially bound by before and explore a new set of artistic tools and processes to create a cohesive narrative embedded within an artwork. Carving specifically allowed me a chance to realize that sometimes, visual art skills are not the only thing that defines a certain work, but rather it is a combination of decisions, dedication, effort, ideas, and inspiration.
